There is nothing inherently wrong with multi-culturalism. In fact, I would argue, any society professing to call itself “free” should live up to its billing and allow people to practice their religion and cultural heritage without harassment from idiots like Dark Helmet. Moreover, if it is my wish not to completely purge my cultural heritage and assimilate, then I have every right to do so – as long as it does not place onerous demands or burdens on anyone else.
For God’s sake, don’t let the UK convert into a US inspired social conservative model. Look at where they have landed since George Bush and his religious wing-nut base took power? That is what awaits UK society unless you keep the Christian authoritarians as far away from the levers of power as possible.
