Watching the D.C. newsies, they assume everyone is the same type of egomaniacal monster so rife in the nation’s capital. Palin is a sensible and centered person who wants to accomplish things, with or without the trappings of office. If office comes, that is all right. If it does not, that too is all right.
So take her at her word. There is a quite nasty campaign going on to use ethics complaints to distract her and perhaps distress her financially. She cannot deal with this campaign, do a decent job as governor, and serve as a political spokesperson all at the same time. So the logical thing to do is to quite the governorship, which also makes the ethics issues go away. (Don’t forget, the left managed to savage Newt pretty good using this device — as the adage goes, the target must win every time; the attacker only once.)
As to the future — who knows? The national situation is so precarious that everything will be totally different in 2 or 4 years, since the odds are that Obama will have brought on either Depression or serious Inflation, or perhaps both. I doubt if she is thinking that far ahead. She is going to be a political spokesperson, and that is it.
