right, I was too quick on that one.
Also the fact that Hungary was ruled by Austria doesn’t explain why Esterhazy spoke german, for Hungary became an austrian protectorate under Sissi the emperess reign, but rather it was a tradition by the military families of this times, until the fifties. (De Gaulle, ahah ! spoke fluently german too)
