Actually, if there weren’t so many superdelegates, Obama would already be the de facto nominee.
He has a clear majority of the delegates won in primaries and caucuses.
The two big differences between the Republican and Democratic parties is that the Republicans have a lot of winner-take-all primaries — like California, where McCain knocked Romney out of the race with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s help — and very few superdelegates.
