If the Republican Party plays identity politics it loses. To try to attract black ( or white ), latino, Jewish, Christian ( or any other religion, or even religious skeptics ) is to play the Democrats’ game. It is one the GOP can’t win. The Democrats will promise anything to get votes and the lapdog media will promote those promises. Republicans can’t out-promise Democrats. It’s impossible. The Democrats will raise the stakes every time and will never be held to their promises by a media that believes its function is that of a propaganda organization for the Democrats. If a Republicans says “It would be nice if this happens”, it will be treated as a personal pledge of fierce moral urgency. If a Democrat promises something, directly and without reservation, it will be treated as a goal.
Republicans need to appeal to all voters. Appealing to a specific set of them is never going to work. Democrats are the party of self interested splinters. Republicans need to be the party of Americans.
