Yes, there are facts. But there are an infinite number of them. The very selection of them by news outlets reveals what they believe to be newsworthy. That is an opinion. Beyond that, as a nation founded on the basis of “consent of the governed,” opinions are actually more important than facts. Modern journalism’s insistence on the sanctity of facts over opinions runs counter to our founding principles.
