The GOP Can Attract Minorities — If They Can Stop Being Bigots
Again, very strange. For one thing, while racism isn’t a Republican monopoly, it seems to cut only one way. Can anyone remember the last time a Republican said something anti-Semitic? I’m sure it’s happened at one point…but Jews vote for the Democrat about 80% of the time, and then “them Jews” keep Rev. Wright from talking to his old parishioner. Half of the Democratic party these days uses the word “neo-con” when they clearly mean “Jew” and no one says anything at all in protest, or argument.
As for the battles that the Democrats stood with the Blacks on…they also stood *against* them on most of the same battles. Republicans weren’t even on the ballot in most Southern states during Jim Crow. And of course, this doesn’t even mention the real battles, the ones that happened a century and a half ago, when the Republican party was formed, primarily on an abolitionist platform. Probably too far back for anyone to remember.
