Actually, the Democratic Party altered its approach quite a bit. And began winning/almost winning presidential elections starting at the beginning of the last decade.

The New Democrats were positioned much more moderately.

Unfortunately, the average Joe Democrat really has no idea why they are one in the first place. The vast majority of staple Democratic sounding boards by politicians have been the same for decades. You would of think they would of changed ONE single thing they profess to believe in at some point. Everything you hear in the Democratic campaigns of today is the exact same things you heard 30 years ago. Without racism, inequality, poverty, welfare, and unemployment, there would be no Democratic party. No politician on the left is in it to fix anything.
