I liked “Thriller.” That said, I have to laugh at the ignorance of people who think MJ was a vastly talented entertainer. A good song-and-dance man, but like someone said, not anywhere near the same league as Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Duke Ellington, Scott Joplin, Robert Johnson, BB King, Marvin Gaye – sheesh, I could go on and on and on. It’s not like there was this huge shortage of black musicial talent before MJ turned up singing “ABC.”
MJ looks rather insignificant compared to the black talent that came before him. On the other hand, it’s no wonder idiots consider him a giant. He is a giant compared to the moronic gangsta rappers – which is not a happy statement about the state of popular music today.
Before fools start telling me I must be ancient – hell, I’m younger than MJ was (although unlike him I grew up).
Before you dismiss people like Ellington and Ray Charles as irrelevant and for old people, remember – they were also huge in their day. If they no longer matter because you can’t remember them, why on earth do you think anybody will give a hoot about MJ 40 years down the road? May your children and grandchildren have exactly as much respect for MJ as you have for those who came before him. That means they will laugh at you for being an old jackass fawning over some goofy looking freak from the 20th century.
