“A plain reading of the text(sans Midrashic interpretation) lends itself to the understanding that Rev Lee regrets his statements. Thats enough for me…. It does not matter whether he is motivated by sincere regret or othere, more banal reasons.”
Big Ben,

A plain reading indicates he “regrets his statements” only to the degree that they caused him problems. Not only is that not sincere, it is a textbook example of a non-apology apology.

Notice how he never denies saying what he said. Nor does he choose to say, simply and clearly, that he doesn’t actually believe what he said: That Jews influence media content and Jews fueled back rage by depicting African Americans negatively in various media. He. Never. Says. It. There is every reason to conclude they he still believes it, and – since he only regrets causing public uproar – he will continue to say it, being careful that it’s among a group of like-minded people.

As for his “Red Sea” analogy…seems like he likens Jewish people to the pursuers. Who are killed. An odd reference, given the circumstances.

Finally, as has been noted, the people who need to answer for themselves are not this racist nut, but the politicians who associate with the likes of him, and sit silently when he preaches hate.
