I don’t feel adequately informed to speak on who “controls” the entertainment industry, except to say that as a function of the overall population, I see a lot of jewish surnames for very successful producers. I don’t think you can extrapolate that to “controlling” the media. But one thing I do know is that the media isn’t controlled by black folks. And the other thing I know is that whoever said they depiction of black people is so positive that it strains credulity….well, I don’t know what you’re watching. Scan the last two decades of movies and find an action movie (excluding one where Will Smith stars) where the black man doesn’t die. I promise you, you can’t. But, while we’re on “positive movies,” even as a white people, are you telling me you can’t see the insulting undercurrent in many of these movies? I can, and I’m a white guy. The black man too often is shown as being a “good guy” by “saving” the white man (The Legend of Bagger Vance, anyone?) Think about GLORY. This movie wasn’t content to just show a bunch of black men being marched off to their deaths in a suicide mission. Oh no, the final shot is the dead white leader laying next to the dead black man. THAT is the message. It was saying, “Look how we redeemed ourselves as white people. SURE, we sacrificed the lives of a bunch of expendable soldiers for no apparent military gain, BUT TWO white guys died, too.” Hollywood (and whoever “controls” it) never seems content to just show black people as the central characters until they started greenlighting Tyler Perry movies, and a lot of those funds are coming from black investors and producers. If “Hollywood” were doing such a great job with their depictions, I assure you that so many black folks would not be jumping on these black-run, black-written movies.
