Actually the Rev. had it completely backwards about celebrating. At the Seder, when reciting the ten plagues that befell the Egyptians when they refused to release the Jews from slavery, we pour off some of the wine in our cups to symbolize that our joy is diminished because others had to suffer in order for us to achieve our freedom. But I would not expect a hater like the Rev. to be able to grasp such a Jewish concept – I’m sure his natural instinct would be to rejoice in the suffering of his “enemies”, even imaginary ones such as the Jews who never did anything to him.
