Just imagine what happens when they run into a kid who calls them out on this stuff. I can say with absolute certainly that, even at 18, I would have told these morons to go to hell, and I would have used a lot more salty terms. And if some administrator had hectored me for not responding to questions about orientation etc., I would have told them in no uncertain terms and in salty language what they could do.
When people insult you, you get to insult them back.
