Dodgers sportscaster Vin Scully brought baseball to life for me many years ago. There’s something about his love of the game and his generosity of spirit to players on both teams that always impresses me.
Now I have the thrill of watching my 9-year-old daughter develop as a softball player. It’s not baseball, but it is fast pitch and it will do! A couple weeks ago she got to pitch and struck out two batters and got the last out on a pop fly. She got to be starting pitcher yesterday and held her own. Couldn’t be prouder. Someday she’ll be passing the sport along to her kids.
We may be a softball family for now (at least until our 5-year-old boy gets going in Little League), but I’m with the Farenheit 451 crowd in spirit. May baseball live forever!
