I appreciate many points from this article, since I think it’s true we can’t solve immigration if we keep clouding the issue with “racism” and all the emotions that term sparks in people.
Nevertheless, there is racism and many Latinos have to deal with it. To be fair, I find liberals can be worse than conservatives on racism, because liberals blend old-fashioned bigotry with paternalism and a need to control minorities by claiming to help them.
But I think it’s good that Pajamas Media and other right-wing outlets still publishes pieces from time to time giving conservatives a perspective on how many insults and outrages Hispanics in America have to put up with. I am a Republican, voted for McCain, rallying behind people like Palin and Romney, listen to Rush Limbaugh each day & think he’s great — the whole shabang.
Republican values are my Latin American values. But there need to be more conservative writers who confront anti-Hispanic racism. In that regard, there need to be more Ruben Navarretes — or people of any race who can at least talk about racism. Yes, some people will call you racist if you are pro-border-enforcement, and that’s not fair.
But it’s also true that people will call you racist if you say a lot of crude and insensitive things against another race. So if that’s you, don’t complain about being called racist, just stop being racist.
