Let’s play devil’s advocate for a minute and assume for the sake of argument that Sotomayor was, in fact, accepted at Princeton only on merit, and did graduate with honors without any affirmative action tipping of the scales, etc., etc.
Doesn’t that completely refute the argument that she was a victim of discrimination, and that the deck was stacked against her? Are we supposed to accept, with a straight face, that she was so superhuman that she achieved all of this despite a conspiracy of white men at all levels of these universities to make sure that she fails?
You can’t have it both ways. Either she was pushed beyond her competence by the institutions, or she was treated fairly.
