Because the LAPD has lowered standards since the 1980s, it’s not surprising that the prostitutes and gang members recruited into LAPD ranks have replaced the former pool of exceptional candidates.
Thirty years ago, most officers would have attended the LAPD Academy for free. Today, LA issues bonuses to officers for not dropping out – a sure sign of the LAPD’s current mediocrity.
To fill SWAT ranks today, the LAPD must select from the gangsters, cocaine users, and former prostitutes who now patrol our streets.
