“Let’s all remember that the Democratic Party was the party of slavery before the civil war and the party that made up the KKK after it. They were the ones who came up with concepts like “separate but equal,” segregation, and Jim Crow laws. Are we to believe that they all of the sudden had a change of heart in the sixties?”
The northern Dems had a change of heart once enough black people had moved from the rural south to the northern cities to form a powerful voting block. At that point, they stopped seeing blacks as inferiors to be vilified and exploited, and started seeing them as potential voters to be courted (with free handouts stolen from the rest of the taxpayers and preferential treatment under the law, per the usual Democrat approach).
Didn’t happen all of a sudden though. Took a few decades.
