Cheney’s support is largely ignored because it is largely irrelevant. He has expended no political capital on this topic, and is not an advocate for same-sex marriage. Merely acknowledging that each state determines the status of marriage therein does not equal support for same-sex marriage.

When Cheney decides to take a public stand against his party on this issue, and advocate for full marriage rights for all same-sex couples, that will be news. Until then, he will be ignored, because he is unimportant to this struggle. If not for his personal stake in the matter, it is doubtful he would ever have addressed the issue at all.

Peace.
