I just prioritize what I really need. Sometimes that changes from day to day. If I need to carry more than I can fit in pockets, I carry it in a backpack, I hate to have to carry anything in my hands.
If you only want to protect your money from theft and not worry about protecting your purse, put your money and id in a thin wallet in your pocket and the rest of your junk in a cheap purse, who cares if someone steals your chapstick?
