If the superdelegates (or enough of them) vote for Gore on the first ballot neither Hillary nor Obama will get a majority and there will be further ballots.
Two points:
1 – candidates need MORE than a bare majority to win the first ballot
2 – two states were stripped of all of their delegates, but that doesn’t reduce the total number of delegates that Clinton/Obama need to win the first ballot.
So very likely, no one can win the first ballot, even if Gore stays out of this.
