Interestingly, I heard a report on NPR (hey, it’s the only classical music station left in DC) that Sadr had told his forces to stand down and stop fighting. The report indicated complete puzzlement over why he would do so. No consideration was given to the possibility that the ‘Sadr Army’ was getting clobbered by the Iraqi government forces and Sadr was trying to preserve some level of military capability before it got wiped out, even though he has done exactly the same thing in the past for that reason.
