the US and France are like a disfunctional family. Thomas Jefferson got his ideas from a french philosopher. France financed much of our revolution and helped with troops at the end. We of course were keeping a good deal of british forces busy here instead of fighting the french. Without the french underground D-day and the Liberation of france might not have been possible.
Besides that I could think of no country that would attempt to conquer france without a really good plan on what to do with all the prisoners.
