I never quite figured out that “Latino” tag…I mean, I’m half Italian,(the other half’s mostly Irish, which makes me pretty much American in the mix of it)an’ from what I gather, history’s told me I would have more entitlements towards a claim of “Latino” (In regards to the root word being “Latin”)than any person whose origins commence on the “Western” side of the globe,(Of course I’m speakin’ of the world, after it divided itself into the hemispheres). Granted the migration seems to have occurred through Asia to the Mid-east, to the Mediterranean, an’ then with the conquistadors sailed off across the Atlantic an’ forced bred themselves with the natives there. So basically they’re all half Spanish or Portuguese under those terms, with a lot of bitterness in the batter…But to identify yourself as Spanish or Portuguese, is jest to be off-shoot Italian, which is off-shoot Turkish, which is off-shoot Arabian, which is off-shoot, (it is my contention), Asian to some extent….In the end, we were all some kind of fish I imagine….Yet the La Raza crowd would call me “whitey”…even with my Italian origins (even considering the heaps of adulations they pour upon the fictions of Tony Soprano or Don Corleone…They still consider those characters “whitey” because of their status in American culture.)…..so like I said, it’s got nuthin’ ta do with “race” really, it’s more about power, nationalism…and conartistry.
