Very thoughtful discussion by Neo-NeoCon. The comparison of judge and psycho-analyst is particularly insightful, but I wonder: isn’t the latter, at least in the view of certain schools, supposed to be empathic? Perhaps the comparison, while useful, has its limits. Or perhaps Obama’s understanding of empathy is quite different from the clinical definition.
