“You know, like Halliburton getting the contracts to feed our soldiers at like five times the price of a decent honest meal served up on any ship of the line in the US Navy.”
In case it hadn’t occurred to you, A firebase in Iraq is not a Navy vessel.
Navy vessels come from the shipyard with reefers, galleys, mess decks and cooks. Hot water is produced as a by-product of the ship’s engines.
5x the cost for a grease-burger in the middle of Al-Bum Phuk isn’t necessarily in the ridiculous range, when you consider that everything in that burger has to be shipped over from the states, landed in Kuwait or Basra, and trucked in,(kept frozen the whole way, mind you…including the grill to cook it on, the guy who cooks it, and the paper plate it’s served on.
And I suppose that Halliburton, or whomever has the contract, is supposed to do all that for FREE…
There may be other areas to whine about Uncle Sam getting rooked, but supplying the lads with decent grub isn’t one of them.
