This has been a steadfast position by those in Hollywood since the beginning of film. Two reasons for this that immediately come to mind are fear of Muslim reprisal and the unending attack on Christianity by the leftists who’ve come to run things in H-Town.
There are those of us brave enough to buck the norm though. You can see parts of a screenplay I am writing about the life of Muhammad here at a blog I write for:

Until more writers and producers grow a set you’ll continue to see the same, tired, Christians are evil sort of films that Opie has now put out.
