You have described the scenario that is archetypical of how the collectivists want to start history with a clean slate. If they cannot extirpate our ideas and our will for liberty, then they must kill us. It is simple as that. I know this to be true, since I have perused volumes of the thinkers from that tradition over many years. Once I began to see that they wanted to take by force what I was hoping could come through the seduction of certain ideals, I began to search if there could be a moral way to reform and reinvent socialist ideas. But I could not find a way this could be done.
The “New Moral Man” that Marx described is V.I. Lenin. Stalin took it to a Superman’s status. Mao was an even more profligate murderer. Ho less so, but he followed in their steps. Fidel had his killers, among them Ernesto “Che” Guevara, whose t-shirts sell quite well these days.
The day is coming when we may be forced to pick up the rifle again in defense of liberty. Because if we do not, we lose it all. And the darkness will be long.
But let that be the last resort, when all else has failed. Those Americans who collaborate with totalitarianism, who back us into a corner, will deserve the just retribution their tyranny merits.
