Personally, I think the real problem for conservatism is the very core nature of conservatism.
By nature, conservatives hate talking about conservatism. Not out of a lack of faith, but rather, because conservatives prefer to be doing something rather than talking about doing something and tend to somewhat embarrassed by being recognized for it. During the Bush years, America and Americans donated more money to charity than the rest of the world COMBINED, yet Conservatives let the Left paint America as greedy. Bush did more for Africa than anyone, yet the Left declared, unchallenged, that “[he] hated black people.” All because we were too embarrassed at the thought of being recognized for our good deeds that we didn’t put up much of a fight about it. We are the guy that blushes in embarrassment when a bell ringer catches him putting money his pot and thanks him for it, when he would rather go unnoticed.
That’s why the “Tea Parties” are such a big deal, because Conservative normally don’t WANT to stand up and be recognized. One needs only look at the number of conservative talking heads vs. liberal ones to see that. Liberal pundits and columnists are a dime a dozen, but conservative ones are fairly rare. The Left will always have an advantage because that attitude is a core part of what makes a conservative a conservative.
They are exceptions to that rule, but again they are rare. Lacking a strong leader to draw them out, most conservatives would be perfectly happy being the “silent majority.” Until that changes, the Left will continue get away with their post-modernisms and false “truths” because conservative simply won’t call them on it.
