Your article rings so true with me. I was Jim Tedisco’s Finance Chairman in the recent NY20 loss. Our team raised $1.4 million in 8 weeks, much of it raised from out of the District. The most frequent comment/complaint I heard was from Republicans complaining about how Tedisco’s campaign ads were too negative. And many of these were from people who were volunteering their time and writing me checks.
It soon became quite apparent to me that Republicans hated it when the Republican ran negative ads, while Democrats were quite pleased with the much more negative ads being run by the Democrats. Dems were quite comfortable saying: go get those evil Republicans and rip them into little shreds, while Republicans were just appalled that we would stoop so low as to use the same tactics.
But here’s the really hard part: a large number of Republicans (call then RINO’s) actually DIDN’T VOTE FOR TEDISCO, because of the ads. And again … this is from some people who had actually donated money because they didn’t want the Dem to win. Go Figure!
Now there are other quite distinct reasons why Tedisco lost, but that doesn’t take away from the above observation.
