This is the root cause behind our current situation. I think bush’s behavior was either the result of being crushed by all sides, or a pampered rich kid who couldn’t be bothered. His abandonment of the defense of anything good in US politics began the collapse of the Republicans as they all dove for the cover of “bringing home the bacon” as the only defense against withering attack. Bush was a bad president, sadly. Now matters are much worse.
I’m fully behind the author’s sentiment on ratcheting up the intensity.
