488. Nick:

Venividivici,

Secession is treason. We settled this 140 years ago when the South seceded to protect their precious right to own and exploit other human beings.

That settled it for one epoch. We are now in a different epoch and the question is no longer the “right to own and exploit other human beings”, it’s the right to the fruits of one’s own labor and not have it confiscated by bureaucrats who skim some off the top for themselves and then “give” you back your own money in the form of the goods and services THEY think you should have. Screw you if you think otherwise, because those are exactly the battle lines.

You want the Red States to go, fine. But remember, those states survive thanks to the largess of the Blue States, home of the republic’s economic engine and the bulk of its talent.

Oh, horseshit. I live in a blue state in a blue location because that’s where corporations set up shop back when the whole country was much more red. I pay more taxes than 10 blue voters and I’d gladly relocate to a more business-friendly locale. Look at who pays the bulk of NY state taxes. It’s “red” Wall Street guys. Remember, taxes are assessed at the individual level, not the state level, unlike electoral votes.

The fact is that should the Deep South or the Mountain West flee in disgust from their communist brothers on the coasts and in the Midwest, they’d soon find themselves bankrupt, their rulers comforting themselves with libertarian or Christian-right dogmas as their suffering people fled back to welcoming embrace of the United States.

If you’re so sure of this, let’s try it. Put your money where you big f-ing mouth is.

Not engage the debate and win on the strength of your ideas, but to destroy the Union.

Dude, the idea that one could “debate” with someone who’s already made up their mind about what is right and what is wrong is ludicrous, unless the person is open-minded. I am not open-minded to what you have to say and you are not open-minded to what I have to say. It’s like they say in divorce proceedings, “irreconcilable differences”. I’d rather debate among centrist, center-right and right leaning options. I don’t need the left of center and left options on my menu. I know what they are and I don’t want them. Period.

Could that be because you know, deep down, that you’ve lost the hearts and minds of the American people, that they’ve kicked you to the curb and are seeking a new relationship with government that isn’t marked by abuse and contempt? If America won’t be with you, it shouldn’t be with anybody, right?

You’re going on and on about “the American people” and what I’m telling you is that there is no “American people” anymore, at least in the sense of having a consensus about how to best organize society. There are people who believe what you believe (52% of them, at last count) and people who believe what I believe (48% at last count). Making up some mythological (at this point) “American people” is just a smokescreen for what you really desire, which is that the 48% hand over the fruits of their labor for the “enlightened” 52% to dispose of, as I mentioned above. Any insinuation that your ideology does away with “abuse and contempt” is pitiably laughable and you should be embarrassed to even spout such nonsense.

Think about it; just try, it’s not that hard.

Right back at ya, pal. Clearly, I have thought about it, while you’re just spouting cliches.
