How strong a link did Saddam have to Al Qaeda should be a moot point by now. Those who support Bush will always find good reasons for invading Iraq. Those who do not support Bush will accuse Bush of deliberately lying, as LBJ did with the Gulf of Tonkin incident. The fact is that we are in Iraq de facto, that Hussein is dead, that Al Qaeda has been virtually destroyed as a military entity, that there have been no acts of terrorism in the US since the invasion and finally, that Osama Bin Laden has either been killed or rendered impotent.
In Iraq we find a possible friend where as before the invasion a long succession of Husseins was in store.
Did we have a legitimate reason for invading Iraq? We’re past that. Heck, we could have resorted to lighting candles but what would that have accomplished.
