If the government abrogates unconstitutional power to protect its citizens, then it can use that same power AGAINST its citizens. Stalin justified all his atrocities by reference to external enemies.

Every time we torture we act as a recruiting sergeant for our enemies.

And to whomever it was that asked, I am a practicing Christian, yes. But not at the expense of anyone else’s beliefs.
