I can’t believe how many responses this article generated in such a short time.
BUT: everyone has the perspective ALL WRONG. What is happening today is being viewed from the wrong angle. I just articulated this same sentiment in Jennifer Rubin’s article.
We all need to understand this is about “US vs. THEM.”
US: The American people – liberals, democrats, conservatives, republicans, libertarians … WE the people are in a battle for our liberty.
THEM: ALL politicians – democrats AND republicans, and the MSM.
Remember that old saying “United we stand, divided we fall.” Well, folks, I believe we are a house divided, but we’ve been divided the wrong way.
As I said in my other post: it’s the football team who wins the game, not the management. They stand up there in the VIP box, with catered service, protected from the elements while the football players grovel in the mud or snow or rain, taking the hits and getting the bruises.
Our government is growing beyond manageable proportions. Both parties have done this – not one more than the other. When a Republican sits in the White House, he has the power to veto a Democratic sponsored spending spree just as much as a Democrat president has the power to veto a Republican sponsored spending spree.
The scales are tipping, and they aren’t tipping in favor of the American people.
Ultimately, I believe liberal Americans want the same thing as conservative Americans: the freedom and liberty to pursue our own interests without governmental interference. We both want our government to be held accountable for flawed legislation, for pork stuffed bills, for kow-towing to special interest groups at the expense of their constituents.
We both want our tax burden decreased so that we have the opportunity to invest where and how we want, give to the charity of our choice, and help drive our economy into a full recovery.
We want to feel safe and secure with the knowledge that outside threats are not able to infiltrate our communities to destroy us from within, and are not able to lob a missile unhindered at us to destroy us from without.
We want to know that the people we HIRE to represent us understand that they have been granted a very high honor, and that they’d damn well better SERVE us to the best of their ability.
I’d like to think most of us would agree, through reason and logic, that a government which over-reaches its authority is no longer a government of the people, by the people and for the people. It’s a tyranny and eventually, the people will be the subjects rather than the citizenry.
If we allow our Constitutional authority to be stripped of meaning through flawed legislation brought about by career politicians, then we will no longer be “America” or “The United States.”
We all need to recognise what we risk losing by allowing our government to run amok.
