A few years ago someone coined the term “transnational progressive,” which name describes that tribe pretty well. Their loyalty is not to even part of America, but to this transnational tribe.
Some of them happen to live in America and make token obeisance to American values when required, but they think nationhood is oppressive and outmoded in and of itself, and America (in past incarnations of this tribe, spelled “Amerikkka”) is a vaguely defined “culture” which they think has some valuable components (not NASCAR or flags on the front lawn), which can be folded into and tinkered with until it fits into the transnational “progressive” zeitgeist.
And no, they are not ashamed of this. They are only ashamed of those aspects of America which won’t fit into their brave new world.
