Mr. Spitzer thought, or acted, many times as if he was above the rules of ordinary people.

The words egomaniac, narcissistic sociopath and egregious hypocrite come to mind as labels. The mechanics of his behavior may well be described by the article, but the fact remains the man is a thug who sees other people as tools to promote or pleasure himself, nothing more. Changing stripes will be very difficult, but his decision to resign is by far the best for NY state and politics in general. He lowers the bar, whatever he says about it.

Let us pray that his atonement is sincere, accomplished and that it include public apologies to those bulldozed unfairly in his search for adreneline highs and political power. The truth of this conversion will play out over time.

I am so sad for his family.
