Certainly this is a shocking turn of events. The NY Times reports this morning that the AG in Washington (probably Gonzales) gave the go ahead last year for the FBI to pursue the investigation against the governor to determine why he was moving large sums of money via wire. They thought there might be corruption somewhere, or bribery, or laundering campaign cash, but eventually found out that it was prostitution. Question: when the FBI learned this, why didn’t they drop the investigation and alert Spitzer to knock it off?
