Just to introduce myself, I go by the moniker “Toady”. I am a liberal and like many liberals, I listen to voices I disagree with, including voices here.
Meghan McCain recently made the following statement:
I am concerned about the environment. I love to wear black. I think government is best when it stays out of people’s lives and business as much as possible. I love punk rock. I believe in a strong national defense. I have a tattoo. I believe government should always be efficient and accountable. I have lots of gay friends. And yes, I am a Republican,
I believe there is a great age divide in this country. The republican message does not resonate with our youth. And as they grow older the advantage currently enjoyed by democrats becomes stronger day by day.
Meghan is the only republican that makes me think this trend could possibly be reversed. She speaks to the youth… to our future.
The message of Limbaugh and Hannity isn’t working, except with an ever shrinking fraction of the population. Meghan’s message could work and that causes me some concern.
I don’t pretend that anyone hear will ever look to me for advice. I will say this nonetheless. If the republican party continues to cede the youth vote to the democrats then the elections of 2006 and 2008 will seem like a fond memory in 2012 and 2014.
I would be careful about dissing ms. mccain.
