Ryan:

The memo specifically mentions that civil rights organizations are finding an increase in crimes against Hispanics and provides examples of right-wing extremists suspected of planning violent attacks on Hispanics and immigrants crossing the border.

Except those “specific examples ” (all two of them) were based on erroneous news reports and never happened the way the DHS analysts (and I use the word loosely) described them: http://tinyurl.com/cnt5qm

That’s part of the gripe I and other people have with this report: unlike the left-wing report, this piece of fish wrapping is couched mostly in generalities and padded with weasel-words, and what specifics are offered show their research was … well, “shoddy” would be a charitable description.

If this were turned in to me as a paper in an underegraduate poli-sci class, I’d give it a “C-” at best. DHS claims it was in the works for more than a year, but it looks like it took a couple of hours, at most. I don’t doubt there are violent extremists beyond the Right, but this report is just indefensible.
