In my humble opinion, some diversity in keeping with the customer base, particularly within marketing and customer contact areas, is just common sense. One does need to be careful, however, to fit that diversity to the customer base – not to some politically correct equivalent of the customer base. For example, if your customer base is blacks in Alabama, you do not meet your goal by hiring recent immigrants from Africa. Or black New York Ivy League graduates.
