Mr. Clegg, AGREED. The argument provided by Carol Hymowitz (WSJ) is socialist drivel. She claims that to have more women and minorities “is good for the bottom line because it enables them to recruit the best talent, enlist broad thinking and reach diverse customers worldwide.”

Rubbish. “Best talent” means best talent – not “the acceptable number of gender X.” Likewise, “broad thinking” requires the mind – not the skin color.

What is best for business is for women and minorities to compete and demonstrate accomplishment on a basis unaffected by affirmative action and other state-sponsored forms of discrimination. On this basis alone can a market best operate.
