Obama is used to listening to preachers, religious or otherwise, denounce the US. As a one time liberal myself, I can attest to the fact that university educated types often end up denigrating their own country but only if that country is the US. Much of what I read in my younger days was of the left, what I “knew” of history was written by leftists- eg the phrase “robber barons” to describe those who built the US in the 19th centrury, was a phrase invented by a leftist historian in the l930′s- now it’s embedded in the culture of the country. For Obama to listen to a tyrant denounce the country of which he is president seems like the ultimate in tolerance. In point of fact I don’t believe that the man knows anything about the history of Latin-America and about the culture and politics of Spain to contest Chavez by referring to aspects of Latin-America that has impeded its development quite apart from anything the US did or didn’t do there- the hacienda system, for example that kept large tracts of land in the hands of an elite class. Obama is simply ignorant about so many things and has had so little real world experience that I’m afraid he is easy prey for the Castros, Chavezes, and mullahs of the world.
