VDH:
I suspect that the fellow who claims to have been born in Hawaii is fairly intelligent, but he’s basically a slickster.
He came up through a political environment that was all about whose patronage one had. If one had the right “rabbis”, one’s career went remarkably easy. If one didn’t, you were toast.
In this kind of milieu, a chap would learn two lessons about political enemies…you kiss their +sses until you are in a position to kick their +sses.
Unfortunately for us all, the people whose +sses Obama kicked had already been fatally weakened, so Obama never reaaly has had to play his game “against the varsity”.
And this certainly was the case in last year’s campaign.
Now he’s in the Big Leagues, and he’s never had to face a decent curveball pitcher or been caught in a squeeze play.
I’m very much afraid that he thinks his Chicago political instincts, such as they are, are going to work globally.
