California the 7th largest economy in the world? Yeah, with a credit-rating that’s now junk-bond status – equal to Louisiana of all places. Oh wait, I think Louisiana has a slightly higher credit rating now! I also think, with the number of people fleeing California (businesses and individuals alike) you’ll have any kind of economy.
Frankly, I think this whole secession question is currently a tempest in a teapot. I was born in Texas and currently live there. I’ve probably spent as much time out of the state as in it during my life – first because of my father’s job then because of mine (including one of the bluest states – New York). I do not want to leave the U.S. – however, I would vote to do it should the federal government continue on this path of ignoring the Constitution and getting involved in things that it should have never subsumed from the states. Get rid of all the Departments that are not specified in the Constitution (Dept of Ed. should go first!) to begin with!
If Texas were to leave the U.S. it would only be because the U.S. we signed onto is gone. And if you’re not aware of it – Texas is not the only state with secession movements.
Oh, and for the person who said Texas only turned red state in 2000 and 2004? Get your facts straight and look back at 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1996. We weren’t too blue those years either.
