148 katybeth . . . “If a person hits our door, no matter their condition, nationality, language or whether their illegal or not, we treat them.”

So, what’s the problem? Aren’t you supposed to keep the good of the patient as the highest priority? Would you prefer, like many good conservatives, to turn away trauma victims who don’t have the right card in their wallet? I’m used to the doctor-as-god complex, but the doctor-as-martyr is even more disappointing. Maybe you should find a new line of work, something where your skills aren’t in such conflict with the immorality of your politics. I suggest nursing – it’s far more relevant to the concept of care (and far less obsessed with money, as evidenced by the pathetic pay and recognition they receive.) If not nursing, perhaps a gig as border guard would offer more fulfillment. Now, before you go off on your predictable right-wing rant, let me inform you that I am a hard-working American patriot who provides for my family, pays my taxes, supports my community, and believes that America’s best days are still a possibility and not a memory.

Off you go . . .
