I agree with Koblog. There is now no legal prohibition to a man cohabiting with as many women as he can seduce and living off of their welfare checks, so what’s the big deal?

With regard to the state, marriage should be little more than another type of contract. Of course, since there a few tax and other benefits to marriage now, everyone gets all excited about how others want to be married, just like the sight of a woman with a headscarf freaks people out. As if those scary Moooslims will be banning pork and alcohol in the US next (they don’t in most Muslim countries).

There is as little reason to prohibit polygamy (or polyandry) as there is to prohibit gay marriage.

Let people live their lives as they choose. Last time I checked my quarters, dimes and nickels, it said “LIBERTY” on them, not “MORALITY.”
