Khadija was Mohammed’s first wife as well as his financial benefactress. She was 40 when they married, 15 years older than he.

Is it not true that Mohammed did not take multiple wives until after Khadija had died ?

All these so called debates among Islamic scholars as to who can marry whom when where and how many…seem a little silly and transparent. At which point did the Angel Gabriel sanction multiple wives ? At which point in the evolution of the Koran was Mohammed given permission (in one of the Sura) to have sexual relations with his adopted (sometimes described as “foster”) son’s wife ?

And can you imagine being a 16 year old in Afghanistan or Pakistan and catching the eye of a grizzled middle aged Osama bin laden or Ayman al Zawahiri ? What sadness, what misery for these poor girls.

Is not having multiple wives a matter of convenience when a younger, prettier woman catches the married man’s eye or he simply wishes variety ? The idea that Myra had to accept this facet of Islamic law (that devastated her own life) is very sad.
