People who use the term “social justice” should define what they mean by the phrase but in my experience they never do. It seems to imply that lots of people are stuck with an unfair lot in life — in terms of money, achievement, and status — by a social order stacked against them. Victims of external forces and powerless against them. Is the idea basically Marxist? Rewards should not vary with effort, achievement, talent, behavior, and values but rather be spread around more or less evenly? What the heck is it?
