Very rarely do journalists or their editors “go after” candidates, and I have a feeling that what you are portraying as a conspiracy against the Gubernator was really just editors trying to sell papers and reporters trying to get more name recognition. Not that this is any more valiant than deliberate political sabotage, but saying Baquet et. al. deliberately hurt Schwarzenegger’s campaign is taking things a step too far.
As for the impact this McCain story will have on the Times…it will probably be the same as what the other story had on the LA Times – little to none. Last time I checked, the LA Times was still “the” paper in California. And, chances are, Bill Bradley and/or his editors remain subscribers.
Also…next time you want to criticize reporters for printing dirty stories, remember: those dirty stories are the only things keeping you employed.
